On November 4, Amma Asante, Chair of the European Board for Media Services (Media Board), addressed the European Parliament, highlighting the progress made in putting the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) into practice and the opportunities ahead.
Asante stressed that effective national implementation, adequate regulatory tools and sufficient resources will be key to fully realising the ambitions of the EMFA. Strong implementation across Member States is necessary to provide a solid basis for closer cooperation between Europe’s national media regulators.
The Chair also pointed to the substantial progress made by the Media Board during 2026, pointing to its work on media market concentrations, cross-border regulatory cooperation, exchanges on the practical implementation of the EMFA, stakeholder engagement and contributions to wider European media policy discussions.
Amma Asante stated: “We have built strong momentum this year. And with your support, I am confident that we can continue to build on it.”
